Pranab Mukherjee, the 13th and the current President of India, turns 80 on Friday.

Born on 11 December, 1935, in a Bengali Brahmin family in Mirati, West Bengal, Mukherjee began his political career in 1969.

Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi called President Pranab Mukherjee an "invaluable asset" to the nation.

Other politicians, including Sushma Swaraj, Amit Shah, M Venkaiah Naidu and others, also wished the President on his special day.
