Even though Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have quashed breakup rumours by making joint appearances at award shows and wedding parties, there's still room for speculation. However, Singh's comment about Padukone being a "marriage material" on Koffee With Karan 5 cemented the fact they are still together.

Reacting to his comment, Padukone's father and former badminton star Prakash Padukone told Mid-Day that he has given his daughter the freedom to make her own choices. "They are adults and know what they are doing. As A father, I have given Deepika the freedom to take her own decisions. Even in this case, she is free to decide whatever she wants to do," the leading daily quoted him as saying.

So what went wrong between the much-in-love couple?

Singh and Padukone's equation was rock solid until XXX: The Return Of Xander Cage happened. Apparently, there were compatibility and ego issues that had created a gap between the two. At the recently-held Ambani bash, both Singh and Padukone had stationed themselves in different corners and it was Shah Rukh Khan who broke the ice and dragged them to the dance floor. They walked out of the party hand-in-hand, giving the paparazzi a brilliant photo-op.

Interestingly, amid split rumours, the two were calm and had given positive statements about their relationship. While Singh had gotten philosophical about love, Padukone said she has been in the industry for quite long to know which stories hold truth and which don't.

The two, although do not share screen space, will feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati. Shahid Kapoor and Padukone play a couple, whereas Singh a cruel ruler and pining lover.
