Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, September 17, with political leaders from across parties extending birthday greetings to him on social media and through public messages.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi posted a brief message on X, wishing Modi good health and a long life.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay also extended his greetings, saying Modi had been working towards building a strong India. Vijay wished the prime minister a long life and good health.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Modi and highlighted areas including infrastructure, digital connectivity, welfare, innovation and entrepreneurship. Singh said India was moving towards the goal of 'Viksit Bharat' under Modi's leadership.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also wished Modi good health and a long life. Rijiju said Modi was leading the country towards becoming a developed India. He had earlier urged people to participate in a 'Lamp of Blessings' initiative as part of the BJP's 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan'.
BJP MP Raghav Chadha also extended birthday wishes to Modi, referring to his journey from a humble background to the country's highest elected office and describing it as an inspiring journey.
Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, meanwhile, used his birthday message to reiterate his allegation regarding voter-list tampering in Delhi. His post combined birthday greetings with criticism of Modi and his government.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were among other leaders who conveyed their wishes to the prime minister.
Amit Shah described Modi in his birthday message as a symbol of hard work, sacrifice and foresight, while wishing him good health and a long life.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday extended birthday wishes to "friend" Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wished him "health and success".
In a post on X, Meloni said, "Happy birthday to my friend @narendramodi, to whom I wish health, energy, and success. Italy and India continue to strengthen their deep bond of friendship, building together a future of cooperation and prosperity for our Nations."
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump extended their wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 76th birthday on Thursday. The messages from the two leaders were posted by the Russian and US embassies in India.
Putin hailed the Indian prime minister, saying, "You are rightly enjoying deep respect from your compatriots and great authority on the global stage. It is impossible to overstate your personal contribution to strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia."
Wishing PM Modi, the US Embassy India posted on X, "On behalf of President Donald Trump, we wish Prime Minister @narendramodi a very Happy Birthday. Wishing you all the health and happiness in the coming year."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he wished him on his birthday, saying the Indian leader's "leadership has transformed India into a world power" and describing the India-Israel relationship as an "unprecedented partnership".
"Happy birthday, Narendra! Prime Minister @narendramodi. Your leadership has transformed India into a world power," Netanyahu said in a message.
The BJP has also launched a month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' from September 17 to October 17 to mark Modi's birthday and his 25 years in public life. The programme includes blood donation and health camps, cleanliness and plantation drives, school competitions, street plays and public outreach activities.
In Varanasi, a Seva Sankalp Bike Yatra was launched as part of the celebrations, with Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu among those attending related events.
