India jumps 16 places to 55th position in global competitiveness index

India's position rose by 16 notches to 55th among 140 countries in the global competitiveness index in 2015 owing to various initiatives taken by the Narendra Modi government, according to a report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). With a score of 4.31 out of 7, the country improved its position significantly from the 71st rank in 2014. The top three positions remained unchanged with Switzerland, Singapore and the US topping the list.
