Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday surveyed the attack site during his visit to the Indian Air Force base in Punjab's Pathankot, as the combing operation for further threats was still underway.
He said the National Investigaion Agency (NIA) would take the final call on calling off the combing operation. The NIA is also in charge of the investigation into the airbase terror attack, which has resulted in the death of seven security personnel and five terrorists.
"What is worrying is how they (the terrorists) managed to enter the base," Parrikar told the media. "I see some lapse, which will become clear after the probe."
Parrikar added that no strategic asset was compromised during the operation.
He said the explosives used by the terrorists were of high quality and that there were indications that some of the materials recovered were made in Pakistan.
The minister also congratulated the security forces for "containing the highly motivated terrorists who were on a suicide mission".
Parrikar said the security personnel killed in the attack would be given "battle casualty status" and all its benefits.
He was accompanied by Army chief General Dalbir Singh, IAF's Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha and NIA chief Sharad Kumar.
