Fresh sketches of the Suzuki's mini 4x4 SUV, iM-4, which were reportedly used for patenting purposes, have surfaced online.

The pictures uploaded by the Italian website, AlVolante.it, indicates the production-spec version of the concept has been true to its original design, which was showcased at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show held in March 2015.

The iM-4, a mini SUV with four-wheel drive system, is expected to be positioned below the upcoming production version of iV-4 concept. The compact SUV has been developed along the theme of 'Shape the Inspiration'. The vehicle does resemble the Jimny in terms of dimensions. In fact, the iM-4 could be the successor of Jimny.

Suzuki claims the vehicle embodies SUV DNA along with latest technology, innovativeness and uniqueness. It features a tallboy design like the WagonR, with increased ground clearance. The capsule-like body makes the design of the car funky. Like the Swift, the iM-4 will also feature blacked out A and B pillars. It is expected to be a full-blown off roader with purposeful 18-inch wheels with five-trapezoid design and higher ground clearance along with the 4x4 system.

The SUV will make use of Suzuki's new-generation platform, which is designed to efficiently increase rigidity while reducing weight via a fundamental redesign of the underbody's structure and also optimising overall vehicle design, including parts mounted on the underbody. This is the same platform that has been used for the upcoming Baleno hatchback.

Suzuki's Boosterjet 1.0, that also will debut with the Baleno hatchaback, will make way to iM-4. It has a new 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo engine, which saves fuel by reducing engine displacement. The output and torque are boosted with a turbocharger. Suzuki, at the concept unveil, also suggested the use of SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle), the manufacturers' new mild hybrid system, which is expected to debut with Ciaz hybrid in India.

The global unveil of the vehicle is expected in 2016 and will go up against Fiat Panda in the international market. In India, the SUV will be pitted against Hyundai Creta and Ford EcoSport.
