Parineeti Chopra has recently won hearts with her appearance in "Dishoom" song alongside Varun Dhawan, while Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh mesmerised the audience with his performance in Shahid Kapoor-starrer "Udta Punjab." The recent buzz is that Parineeti and Diljit will be roped in for the remake of the 1986 hit film, "Chameli Ki Shaadi."

According to a SpotboyE report, it will be directed by Rohit Jugraj, who is known to helm Punjabi movies. The report suggests that Parineeti will play the role of Chameli, originally played by Amrita Singh in the Basu Chatterjee directorial, while Diljit will play Anil Kapoor's character.

The film will be produced by Phantom production, which consists of Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena and Anurag Kashyap. Earlier, it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan wanted to buy the rights of "Chameli Ki Shaadi," but by then, it was already sold to Phantom.

Interestingly, in the beginning of 2016, there were reports that the remake of the cult comedy will be helmed by director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. It was also said that Sonakshi Sinha had been roped in for it. "Chameli's personality has a desi edge, and only Sonakshi can play the character to perfection. We are keen to have her on board," a source had told Mid-Day.

The insider had also talked about the remake's storyline. "The story of the film is relevant even in today's time. Our society still does not approve of inter-caste alliances; many relationships are throttled due to caste and class distinction. The remake will focus on love in the face of such challenges," the source had added.

Meanwhile, the reports suggest that Parineeti and Diljit will appear in it. Parineeti is currently busy with her upcoming movie, "Meri Pyaari Bindu," while Diljit will be seen in his second Bollywood movie, "Phillauri," opposite Anushka Sharma.
