Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) is reported to have captured at least 70 Indian fishermen, who had crossed the territorial water boundary and entered the neighbourhood nation on Saturday.

According to IANS report, the Indian Fishermen Association in Gujarat said "Pakistan had also captured 10 boats".

"We arrested 70 fishermen yesterday for allegedly violating the territorial borders of the coast of Sindh province," said PMSA spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Wajid Nawaz.

"The fishermen were then taken to the capital city of Karachi following the arrest and will be handed over to the local police," Nawaz further said.

India and Pakistan share a history of arresting fishermen who mistakenly cross the international borders for the lack of clearly marked sea borders.

This is not the first time such an incident has taken place.

On 7 March earlier this year the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency had arrested 45 fishermen for crossing over the international sea border in the Arabian Sea.

The fishermen languish in jails till the time top cabinet ministers on both sides of the border hold bilateral meetings.

Last year, 151 fishermen were set free by Pakistan when their Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited India for Narendra Modi's oath-taking-ceremony.

In July 2013, an Indian fisherman died in a Karachi jail awaiting his release.
