Pakistan will get rid of terrorism in 2016, said Pak Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Friday in Islamabad. General Sharif stressed on the need for the entire nation to support the armed forces in this endeavour.

The Pak Army chief was quoted as saying by IANS that there is a nexus between corruption, crime and terrorism, and that elements of terrorism and financial corruption have developed close ties. "All the negative forces in the nexus would be defeated," General Sharif was quoted as saying by IANS.

According to General Sharif, 2016 would be a year of national solidarity, and Pakistan would witness the birth of peace and justice in the coming months.

"Peace and justice will be ensured across the country with the support of the nation," he was quoted as saying by Pakistani daily Dawn. 

The Pakistan Army chief's comments on the day terrorists believed to be Pakistani militants opened fired at the Pathankot Air Force station in Punjab early morning on Saturday. The gunbattle lasted a few hours.
