Shah Rukh Khan has again proved that he rules not only in India but also internationally. His latest release, "Dilwale", which opened to negative reviews in India, has been performing well at the overseas box office.

"Dilwale", directed by Rohit Shetty, is an action romantic entertainer starring Kajol, Shah Rukh, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. The film, which released worldwide on 18 December, has turned out to be a money-spinner globally. At the overseas box office, Shah Rukh's "Dilwale" has pushed past the records of his 2013 release "Chennai Express" to become the sixth-highest grosser.

"Chennai Express", featuring Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles, earned $17.4 million from its overseas run. "Dilwale" shattered this record by a huge margin after earning $22.5 million in just 17 days. The Shah Rukh-Kajol-starrer continues its excellent run at the overseas box office, and will soon break the record of "My Name Is Khan" ($23.5 million).

"Dilwale" was released in around 1,210 screens abroad, with the maximum number of screens in North America (the US and Canada), the UK and West Asia. The film was also released in non-traditional markets (new territories), including Jordan, Spain, Finland, Trinidad and Guyana.

"Shah Rukh Khan's popularity in the international circuit makes it possible to explore new territories. Ideally, around 85-90% of the foreign collection comes from traditional markets. However, in the case of Dilwale, we notice the new or non-traditional markets' contribution at 30-35%. This has helped expand the scope of the international performance for the film," Gaurav Verma, Chief Revenue Officer, Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd, said in a statement.
