Oppo, which has a wide range of camera smartphones, competes against Gionee, which recently launched its S6s in the race to become the best selfie smartphone.

Gionee S6s and Oppo F1s are similar on several parameters, most importantly on the camera. Both handsets are priced under Rs. 18,000, offering a reasonable choice for buyers looking for a performance-driven, well-designed, camera smartphones. Oppo F1s costs Rs. 17,990 and the Gionee F1s is priced at Rs. 17,999. Both handsets are available exclusively through Amazon India and multiple offline stores.

Let's take a look at what Oppo F1s and Gionee S6s have to offer that will compel buyers to pick one of these.

Design and display

At this price range, buyers can expect a premium-level design and both Oppo and Gionee smartphones have unique appeal. Oppo F1s and Gionee S6s have metallic unibody structures with a 5.5-inch display with 2.5D curved glass. In terms of resolution, the Gionee S6s wins an edge with its Full HD screen as compared to the HD 720p display in the F1s. The pictures will appear sharper and brighter in the Gionee S6s.

The biggest USP of both phones is the camera and it is going to be a close call for buyers. Oppo F1s and Gionee S6s have 13-megapixel primary camera sensors with PDAF and LED flash, which can deliver identical photo and video quality. But the selfie camera is the point of focus here.

Oppo F1s comes out as a winner with its 16-megapixel front-facing snapper with f/2.0 aperture, ISOCELL technology, wide-angle lens, Beautify 4.0 and Full HD recording support. In the Gionee S6s, there is an 8MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture with a dedicated LED flash. Oppo fills the missing front-facing LED flash requirement with a screen flash.

Processor, RAM and storage

Gionee S6s is powered by a 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, whereas the Oppo F1s has a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor. Both smartphones have 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage with microSD card support up to 128GB. The performance on both phones is expected to be similar, although we can only vouch for the F1s' performance based on our review.

Battery and software

There isn't much difference in the batteries between two phones as they are identical. Gionee S6s has a slightly larger 3105mAh unit as compared to Oppo F1s' 3075mAh battery pack. Fast charging is missing from both the phones, despite cheaper alternatives such as LeEco Le 2 offer useful technology.

As for the software, Gionee S6s has the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based Amigo 3.0 UI while Oppo F1s still runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Oppo justifies the ageing software with its ColorOS 3.0, which brings several useful features.

Both smartphones have fast and accurate fingerprint scanners for security of the device and also support 4G LTE, VoLTE and dual SIM cards. Gionee S6s has a hybrid SIM tray, which supports either a microSD card or a secondary SIM at a time, but the Oppo F1s has a dedicated microSD card slot in addition to the two SIM card slots.
