In its bid to improve the accessibility of train booking facility to consumers, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) - a government of India enterprise, has released a feature-rich Android app.
With the release of the IRCTC Connect app, the union government has brought the booking facility right to the citizens' palms, thereby reducing the strain of standing in long queues at railway stations, and also lessening the frustration of shelling out extra bucks to travel agents.
Using the IRCTC Connect app, people can view the train time-table, book (and cancel) tickets and also get updates on the upcoming scheduled journeys as well. The only drawback is that users won't be able to access the IRCTC server in the mornings between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon.
During that period, consumers are advised to book tickets directly from PC, via the official IRCTC website (HERE) and brick-and-mortar booking centres. For more details, head to the IRCTC website.
Besides Android, IRCTC Connect has also been made available in Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS platforms as well. However, the Apple iOS version app is still awaited.
