Looks like Bollywood is obsessed with the gruesome and gory genre. It all started with Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, and since then, there has been no stopping. The plot and premise of Bollywood films lately seem to revolve around violence, a bearded protagonist bashing people, guns blazing, and visuals drenched in blood.
Recently, Vanga's Spirit poster starring Prabhas was dropped, and after looking at it, many social media users were of the view that Spirit looks similar to Ranbir Kapoor's Animal.
O Romeo poster: Shahid Kapoor flaunts full-body tattoos in a blood-soaked maniac avatar
On Friday, Shahid Kapoor unveiled the striking first-look poster of his upcoming film O Romeo on January 9.
In the poster, Shahid is seen screaming with his mouth wide open; his face, neck, and hands soaked in blood, marked with cuts and bruises, and covered with tattoos. Dressed in a dark, partially unbuttoned shirt, the actor appears fierce.
Sharing the poster on social media, Shahid captioned it, "Romeo O Romeo, where art thou O'ROMEO!" and announced that the film's trailer will be released on January 10.
Netizens had mixed reactions to the poster as well as the film's title. Many assumed the film would be romantic, given the name O Romeo, seemingly inspired by Romeo and Juliet. However, many also said that Bollywood is once again chasing the trend of blood, guns, and nudity.
A user wrote, "Blood, Guns & Gore, Extreme cursing and Nudity. NEW FACE OF INDIAN CINEMA."
Another wrote, "None of their collaboration have been Hit, and only two could be said a creative success.."
The third one said, "Probably based on a real-life gangster story around 90s Mumbai. Earlier, it was titled Arjun Ustara."
Is O Romeo inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet?
O Romeo is described as a modern, dark reimagining inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, set against a gritty and violent backdrop. The film explores themes of love, obsession, rage and betrayal, following Shahid's character as he navigates a world consumed by brutality and emotional turmoil. The film features Triptii Dimri as the female lead.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and will hit the cinema halls on February 13, 2026.
