The Internet is flooded with numerous reports of Nikki Reed's alleged insecurity over her husband Ian Somerhalder's friendship with his former "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev.

Despite the fact that Somerhalder and Dobrev, who dated for three years before calling it quits in 2013, have moved on to other relationships, speculations are rife that Reed was still worried that Somerhalder would rekindle his romance with Dobrev.

This is being cited as one of the reasons why Somerhalder did not make an appearance at the Teen Choice Awards stage. Reports suggest that Reed prevented Somerhalder from attending the event and accepting an award for the Best Kiss Award, as she feared Somerhalder and Dobrev would recreate the smooch if they won the award.

Interestingly, Dobrev, too, did not mention Somerhalder in her address, instead she spoke about the need for change.

"The last two months have been a pretty big change for me," she said, adding how "change is a scary word … because it meant new beginnings. Change is necessary. Necessary for you to grow and to learn and to better yourself because everything in life comes to an end and as this chapter of my life comes to an end I look back at it with a grateful heart, and I smile."

"The Vampire Diaries" is currently filming its seventh season, and although Dobrev left the show, her character Elena Gilbert is still a part of the show. As fans of the CW vampire drama know, showrunners decided to keep Dobrev's character alive by making Kai cast a sleeping spell on Elena and linking her life with Bonnie's in such a way that Elena would only wake up when Bonnie died.

This means, there is a possibility for Dobrev to reprise her role as Elena when "The Vampire Diaries" finally goes off the air in future.

Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on the CW on 8 October.
