A Nigerian, Obyeka Anwanbukw, died moments after he jumped off the window of a third floor flat in Pune in an attempt to escape arrest from Mumbai's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

35-year-old Anwanbukw had reportedly left his room at Khargar in Mumbai and had been temporarily staying with his friend in a flat at Pimpale Gurav Apartment in Bhau Nagar, Pune. The NCB team arrived at the address along with Sangvi police to make arrest.

"When the NCB team tried to take him into custody, he jumped from the window and fell on a grassy patch. He got up and tried to run away but the police managed to nab him," The Times of India quoted Senior Inspector Saifan Mujawar as saying.

"After a health check-up, he was handed over to the NCB team, which was to take him back to Mumbai. However, while the team was having dinner before leaving, Anwanbukw complained of uneasiness. He was again taken to the Aundh hospital where he was declared dead at around 11:30pm," Mujawar said.

The police are awaiting the post mortem report that will certify the reason for his death and a case of accidental death has been registered.
