Twitterati in India, miffed with the ban on over 850 porn sites, apparently at the behest of the Modi government, have come up with a hashtag #NextBanIdea to mock the authorities by suggesting what else they should ban.

Several Internet service providers (ISPs) have said that they have blocked pornography sites following directions from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The move has angered many Indians, who have taken to social media to condemn the ban as an assault on personal freedom and liberties.

Porn sites such as Pornhub and RedTube now show only a blank page.

While many Netizens have hit out with scathing comments against the ban, many also took to the hashtag #NextBanIdea to wryly recommend what the government can ban next, given that the BJP-led government seems to be on something of a 'banning' spree.

Even the likes of author Chetan Bhagat and Congress leader Milind Deora shared their witty yet caustic ideas, suggesting that several things that are 'not Indian', such as pizzas and olive oil, should be banned.

Some also recommended a ban on sex, in order to address the population issue, while some said regressive television shows that depict women negatively should be banned.

Among other things that Twitterati suggested should be banned are Candy Crush requests, Mondays and even selfies.

Here are some tweets from the #NextBanIdea that was trending on Twitter in India on Monday.
