Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the black-comedy thriller film is about how a plate of biriyani changes the lives of karthi and his childhood friend Premgi.

Talking about his role, Premgi told The New Indian Express, "I play Karthi's childhood friend. We go to college together and later end up as workers in a tractor showroom. I am there all through the film and in every song, except for one love duet."

Revealing about the film's plot, Premgi said, "Karthi and I eat a plate of biriyani one night. The story is about how that plate of biriyani changes our lives forever."

Expectations are high for "Biriyani" as Karthi has teamed up with Venkat Prabhu for the first time. The film was set to release at an earlier date, but Karthi's other Tamil film "All in All Azhaguraja" hit the screens first.

The makers of "Biriyani" had planned to release the film during the Pongal festival in January 2014. But, the festival period is accommodated with two big releases including Ajith's "Veeram" and Vijay's "Jilla". Apparently, the "Biriyani" team didn't want to clash with two biggies. The makers decide to bring the film a month ahead of Pongal.

The film will hit the screens on 20 December. However, "Biriyani" will not have a solo release and will clash with two other films - "Endrendrum Punnagai" and Hindi film "Dhoom 3". The Karthi starrer is getting dubbed in Telugu and is set to release on the same day.

Besides Karthi and Premgi, "Biriyani" also features Hansika, Nassar and Mandy Takhar. Actor Ramki is making a comeback to Tamil films through this Venkat Prabhu directorial.

The film's music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and it is the composer's 100th album. Sakthi Saravanan has handled the cinematography, while Praveen KL and NB Srikanth have done the editing work.
