Nayanthara, who is currently basking in the success of films like "Masss" and "Bhaskar The Rascal", was said to be part of the upcoming Rajinikanth movie directed by Pa Ranjith.

However, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has now denied the reports and said that audience can "expect the unexpected."

"The film's producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has denied the news. When asked whether other top heroines like Kajal Aggarwal or Anushka is playing the female lead in the film, Thanu has puzzled the reporters by saying expect the unexpected," reported Sify.

Nayanthara had earlier been part of Rajinikanth's "Chandramukhi" and "Kuselan".  Meanhwile, rumours are also that Rajinikanth will not have a heroine opposite him in the upcoming movie.

Rajinikanth took Kollywood by surprise when he announced that his next project will be with new- age filmmaker Pa Ranjith, who is known for "Attakathi" and "Madras". Rumours suggested that the actor has decided to try something different from his typical superstar image, with some sources claiming that he will play the role of an aged gangster in the upcoming movie.

Audience are now waiting to see how the director handles Rajinikanth's stardom, given his realistic approach to film-making. The shooting of the film is scheduled to begin around August in Malaysia. The shooting will then presume in various locations in Thailand, Singapore and Chennai.

The untitled movie will reportedly be produced under the banner of Kaliapuli Films International and the makers are planning the film as a Pongal 2016 release.

Rajinikanth has had a bad run at the box office in the last few years, with his two releases, "Kochadaiiyaan", directed by his daughter Soundarya and "Lingaa", directed by KS Ravikumar, not doing well. Therefore, starring in a Pa Ranjith film is being seen as a fresh approach by Rajinikanth.
