Murray has to make it to the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals 2016, else he loses his World No 1 spot to DjokovicReuters

A mouthwatering clash in the tennis court pits two of the most aggressive players of recent times – Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka – in the ATP World Tour Finals 2016 on Friday. The match is already one to watch out for and the fact that makes it more interesting is that either of them can progress to the semifinals of the competition with a win.

Milos Raonic and Novak Djokovic have already qualified for the semifinals from the other group and it needs to be seen on Friday who remain the other two in the last four of the year-ending ATP event.

Murray, Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori are the contenders battling for the spot. Japan's Nishikori, who suffered a defeat against Murray on Wednesday, will take on Marin Cilic in the other game of the day. Here are the qualification scenarios:

If Murray defeats Wawrinka and Nishikori defeats Cilic: Murray wins the group and Nishikori becomes the second qualifier.

If Murray defeats Wawrinka and Cilic defeats Nishikori: Murray wins the group and Nishikori becomes the second qualifier.

If Wawrinka defeats Murray and Cilic defeats Nishikori: Wawrinka wins the group and Murray becomes the second qualifier.

If Wawrinka defeats Murray and Nishikori defeats Cilic: Nishikori wins the group and Wawrinka becomes the second qualifier.

Do you know: If Murray fails to qualify for the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals 2016, Djokovic will finish 2016 as the World No. 1.
