Mumbai Police detained two people after one of them allegedly posed as an official from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and a licensed firearm was recovered from his accompanying bodyguard, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled event in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where heightened security arrangements were in place ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.

According to police, a 24-year-old man identified as Rohan Parekh allegedly entered the high-security venue while claiming to be a PMO official. He was carrying a fake PMO identity card. Security personnel noticed suspicious behaviour and stopped the duo for questioning.

The man was accompanied by another person who was described as his bodyguard. Police recovered a licensed firearm from the bodyguard during the security check.

Mumbai Police said an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident, while the Crime Intelligence Unit and Mumbai Crime Branch are investigating the matter. The authorities are questioning the two men to determine their motive and verify the circumstances surrounding their entry into the high-security area.
