Wardrobe malfunctions have become a part and parcel of award nights, and Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards 2015 was no different. Singers Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus were just two of the celebrities who were caught in embarrassing situations during the award ceremony.

While Gomez looked stunning in a black floor-length dress, she exposed more than she intended when the camera lights made her dress see-through and her nipple pasties became visible.

Cyrus, in the meantime, has ruffled a lot of feathers as she accidentally exposed her bare chest. The singer's wardrobe malfunction isn't such a surprise as this isn't the first time the pop star has shown her breast in public. Previously, she had posed nude for magazines as well as on social networking sites.

Although Cyrus was partially hidden behind a curtain, the camera captured the embarrassing situation, and now the Parents Television Council is seeking an apology from MTV as well as Cyrus for "perpetual blatant sexualisation."

"MTV had an opportunity to use its powerful VMA platform to stir a young audience to aspire to something positive and uplifting. Instead they chose to perpetuate blatant sexualisation – much of it self-inflicted by the artists – and to celebrate the use of illegal drugs," Parents Television Council President Tim Winter said in a statement cited by Entertainment Weekly.

"Are we surprised that Miley Cyrus exposed herself to millions of viewers, and to more people who will inevitably see the news in the mainstream media? About as surprised as we'll be if the sun rises in the east tomorrow morning. We had hoped she would have proven us wrong and demonstrate her considerable talent as a performer, rather than rely on her own sexuality to entertain the audience," the statement noted.
