American technology giant, Motorola is reportedly hosting an event to launch a smartphone in May second week.

Motorola has begun sending out press invites for the launch event scheduled on 13 May, 8:45 AM GMT (around 02:15 PM IST) in London, reported The Verge.

[Update: Besides London, Motorola has confirmed to hold an event in India as well]

Though the company has refrained from specifying significance of the event, the invite's final phrase which reads - 'Made to Last, Priced for All' does give away the clue that the upcoming event will be the launch pad for a rugged budget phone probably with water-repellant feature.

The rumored Moto E almost perfectly fits the description of a low-cost phone, sans the rugged feature part. The upcoming phone is said to be toned down version of the company's previous smartphone Moto G.

According to leaked specifications of Moto E (codenamed XT1021), it features 4.2-inch HD (720p) display, Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS, 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory, 5.0-megapixel camera, a front-facing camera (probably a VGA based snapper), and 1900 mAh battery.

As of now, there is no word on whether Moto E will have water-repellant nano-coating like we seen in Moto G, but many like to incline that it might boast this rugged feature.

Since the takeover by Google (in 2012), Motorola has focused more on providing rich user-experience with simple specifications at affordable prices, unlike rivals who cram their phone with high-end specifications to serve the elite.

[Note: Google has sold the Motorola Mobility to the Chinese company Lenovo, but the transaction is yet to complete]
