About a year ago, The Oxford dictionary crowned "Selfie" the word of the year and also gave it an official entry into the English dictionary marking a special moment for the "7 billion narcissists all alone together" in the world.
Though the word "Selfie" was born in 2002 in an Australian chat room, the word went unnoticed through the years up until 2012 when people started sharing their self-portraits on the social media.
But why was it named the word of the year?
"Language research conducted by Oxford Dictionaries editors reveals that the frequency of the word selfie in the English language has increased by 17,000% since this time last year," Oxford said in an interview earlier.
In honor of its almost-one-year anniversary, we've put together a list of the most epic selfies ever taken in time – even when selfie wasn't even a word!
