The competition in the Indian auto market is getting tougher as the festive season of the year is just around the corner. The auto-makers are rolling their sleeves up to cash in on the auspicious time. July has witnessed some impressive cars in the Indian market and August also has something exciting waiting.
Here we have rounded up the most-anticipated car launches of August from Maruti Suzuki's first crossover S-Cross to Ford's latest sedan Figo Aspire and what to expect from these new offerings, which would convince you to upgrade to the next.
Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione (4 August)
The new Abarth 595 Competizione will break its cover in India on 4 August. Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione, which is slightly different from the Abarth 500, will be powered by 1.4-litre T-Jet motor under the hood. It is tuned to churn out 158 bhp of power and 230 Nm torque.
In India, the Fiat model is expected to be launched with either 5-speed manual transmission or AMT gearbox. Abarth 595 Competizione's features include 17-inch alloy wheels, rear-parking sensors and roof spoilers. The model is also expected to include safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and airbags. In India, Abarth 595 Competizione is expected to be priced at around Rs 26 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (5 August)
Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car-maker, is all set to market its entry into the lucrative crossover segment with its new SX4 based offering S-Cross. The company will launch the S-Cross in India on 5 August and the bookings for the model are already underway.
Maruti S- Cross will be sold through the company's new Nexa premium showrooms and the model is expected to carry a price tag in the range of the range of Rs 8 to 11 lakh. Maruti S-Cross will be pitted against Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport.
The engine line-up of S-Cross will include two diesel engine options -- 200 DDiS 1.3-litre diesel motor that can churn out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, and 320 DDiS 1.6-litre diesel that is tuned to pump out 118bhp and 320Nm of torque.
While the DDiS 200 engine will come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox with an ARAI certified mileage figure of 23.65 kmpl, the latter will get 6-speed manual transmission and is tuned to deliver a fuel efficiency of 22.7kmpl.
Ford Figo Aspire
Ford Figo Aspire, the much-awaited offering in the sedan segment, will also see the launch in August, ahead of the festive season this year.
Under the hood, Ford Figo Aspire will pack three engine options, 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5-litre TDCI and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT motor, and two transmission options, five-speed manual transmission and six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
While the entry variant of Figo Aspire will be powered by 1.2-litre Ti-VCT engine, which is tuned to churn out 88PS @6300rpm and 112Nm @4000rpm of peak torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission, 1.5-litre TDCi that has the capacity to produce 100PS of power and 215Nm of torque will come with 5-speed manual gearbox.
The third engine in the line-up, the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT is tuned to produce 112PS @6300rpm and 136Nm @4250 rpm of torque with 6-Speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
When launched, Ford Figo Aspire will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent, is likely to be pegged at a price tag between Rs 5.2 lakh and Rs 7 lakh.
