US technology major Microsoft launched its flagship Lumia 950 and phablet-variant Lumia 950 XL in India on Monday (30 November).

Microsoft's new Lumia 950 and 950 XL were originally unveiled in the US in October.

Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL come with pretty much identical internal hardware, but differ on a couple of features. While the former sports a 5.2-inch WQHD (2560x1440p) screen and runs on the Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core processor with 3,000-mAh battery, the latter boasts of a bigger 5.7-inch WQHD screen and houses Snapdragon 810 Octa-core CPU backed by a 3,340-mAh cell. The rest of the specifications of the devices are same.

They both run Windows 10 Mobile OS, and come packed with 3GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage and wireless charging ability.

Like all previous flagship Lumia series phones, the new Microsoft devices also have state-of-the-art camera hardware.

Lumia 950 series come with a feature-rich 20MP PureView camera with Carl Zeiss lens, six-lens optics, 1/2.4-inch sensor, 26 mm camera focal length, f/1.9 aperture, natural flash, fifth-gen OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation), autofocus (two-stage capture feature) and 4K video recording.

On the front, they house a 5MP wide-angle camera with f/2.4 aperture and full HD.

They also boast of top-notch unlocking technology, dubbed as Windows Hello (Beta). It uses infra-red camera technology to automatically authenticate the user to unlock the phone, thus providing an additional layer of security for the device.

Another talking point of the new Lumia 950 series is "Continuum".

It works with the help of Microsoft's proprietary display dock accessory. Lumia 950 user can convert the phone in to a mini-computer via Continuum. It is a new, adaptive user experience offered in Windows 10 that optimises the look and behaviour of apps and the Windows shell for the physical form factor and customer's usage preferences to provide a PC-like experience.

Microsoft Lumia 950 series price and release details:

The company has confirmed that the new Lumia 950 and 950 XL will be available in India December 11 onwards for Rs 43,699 and Rs 49,399, respectively.

People can also pre-book the devices online on e-commerce sites as well as brick-and-mortar stores across India starting Monday (30 November).

Microsoft also added that prospective Lumia 950 series buyers stand the chance of getting a display dock worth Rs 5,999 free, provided they pre-order the device. [This offer is valid till stocks last.]
