Micromax YU Yureka vs Samsung Galaxy A7 vs HTC Desire 820: Specification Comparison

Last week, Samsung launched a new smartphone Galaxy A7 in India for ₹30,499.

It boasts metal frame around edges to give a feel of premium, but its internal hardware seem a bit sub-par for its price-tag, cause its rivals Micromax YU Yureka and HTC Desire 820 feature almost same specifications, but costs less in the market.

To provide a better perspective on these devices, we have briefly described the key features of Samsung Galaxy A7, HTC Desire 820 and Micromax YU Yureka, which are certain to help for making an informed decision before buying the phone.

Design and Display:

In this aspect, Samsung's Galaxy A7 takes lead over the rivals as it sports energy-efficient full HD super AMOLED display having a pixel density close to 401ppi (pixels per inch).

Another notable feature of Galaxy A7 is that it measures just 6.3mm in thickness, making it slimmest Samsung smartphone in the market. It also flaunts uni-body design with premium metal laced around its edges like we see in the flagship Galaxy Alpha series.

The new Micromax YU Yureka comes with a ergonomic sloping edge design with a bulge in the middle (on the rear-side). It measures 8.8mm thick in the middle and tapers down to 6mm thickness at the edge.

In terms of display specifications, it sports 5.5-inch HD (720x1280p) screen with 80-degree viewing angle.

HTC Desire 820 too flaunts 5.5-inch HD screen and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 shield.

Processor & RAM storage capacity:

In this aspect, Micromax YU Yureka , HTC Desire 820 and Samsung Galaxy A7 stand even as they house the same SoC (System on Chip) and RAM.

All three phones ship with the new generation 64-bit class-based Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), manufactured by the industry leader, Qualcomm.

One advantage of having 64-bit processor is that the phone performance and RAM management will more optimised and efficiently used among the apps. Users are less likely to face lag during multi-tasking.

Secondly, new Android applications starting this year will roll out with 64-bit architecture compliant codes, making Samsung Galaxy A7, Desire 820 and YU Yureka phones future-proof.

Snapdragon 615 chipset comes with H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), which enables in faster computational operations.

It will be aptly backed by Adreno 405 graphics engine and 2GB DDR3 RAM and expandable storage.

Camera specification details:

Micromax YU Yureka packs a 13mp camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor, Blue-lens architecture, 5-physical element lens, f/2.2 aperture, 75.4 degree wide-angle, full HD (1080p) resolution recording, LED flash and a pretty decent 5mp camera with 71-degree angle lens, which is certain to cheer selfie enthusiasts.

On the other hand, HTC Desire 820 too houses impressive camera specifications. It features a 13mp camera with BSI sensor, F/2.2, 28 mm lens, 1080p video recording ability and a feature-rich 8mp with BSI sensor, full HD video recording ability.

Samsung Galaxy A7 ships with 12mpcamera with auto-focus, LED flash and a 5mp snapper on the front.

Mobile operating system:

In this aspect too, Micromax easily edges past rivals Samsung and HTC thanks to feature-rich Cyanogen custom Android OS.

Advantages of using Cyanogen OS include option to remove any app (even the pre-loaded ones which come with the phone), enhanced performance, better RAM management, regular security updates [case in point POODLE vulnerability fix released last month], quick settings configuration option, regular monthly update, privacy guard (gives users the control to what the applications can learn about you and your contacts), Global Blacklist (gives users the ability to flag telemarketers, robo-callers, annoying people and blacklist them) and many other customisation options.

[Note: It is learnt that Micromax YU Yureka will be the first device among all Android phones in the world to get custom CyanogenMod series Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. That's not all. Yureka will get monthly OTA (Over-The-Air) updates there-after and the company warranty will not get void, even if user roots (unlock) the phone.]

On the Other hand, Samsung and HTC phones run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS with respective custom UI TouchWiz and Sense.

Price:

Price is one of the most important aspects of this comparison article as it plays a crucial role in the minds of the price-sensitive middle class and the working youth population, which forms the biggest chunk of the India's demography.

Micromax YU Yureka comes with a price-tag of just ₹8,999 and is sold exclusively on Amazon India on Thursdays. However there is couple of complaints among the buyers is that the phone is almost impossible to buy online.

Company is offering just 15,000-25,000 units via flash sale on Amazon India, which is an uphill task for users who have to compete with more than three lakh registered consumers. In response to that feedback, the company has assured to scale up the inventory capacity in February.

Another grieving problem which is synonymous with Micromax is the after-sale service arrangement, which company often gets panned by critics and fans. However, if Micromax is to be believed things are about to change for good.

The company has announced that YU Yureka buyers will be provided with on-call service, where-in consumers can just dial the customer-care number to get the device assessed. The company service personnel will come to their door; then, they would get it fixed and return it. This is a testing time for Micromax to make a good impression on consumers and keep the loyalty like tier-1 MNC brands like Apple and Samsung.

On the other hand, Samsung comes with a steep price-tag of ₹30,499.

HTC Desire 820 made its debut way back in November in India for ₹24,990, but it can be grabbed for between ₹20,000 to ₹23,000 bucks at nearby brick-and-mortar shops and e-commerce site.
