Micromax officially confirmed Android Lollipop rollout for its popular Canvas series in India. Owners of Canvas Xpress A99 have already started receiving the update over-the-air, making it the first Canvas phone to get the Lollipop treatment. The company is yet to share details on the roll-out of Android Lollipop to other handsets in the series but considering the process has already begun, the initiation shouldn't be far off.

Micromax's decision to update its recent Canvas smartphone to the latest Android OS comes as other domestic OEMs are launching new phones with the new software. It is also a great deal for budget smartphone owners who have been on the lookout for the biggest software upgrade from Google. The end result is benefitting the consumers.

"As a brand, we are committed to keeping our customers delighted with best-in-class technologies and experience. Riding on the same thought, we are today rolling out the Android L update with Canvas Xpress, making the overall user experience more efficient and seamless," a Micromax spokesperson said in a statement, Tech FirstPost reported.

Micromax Canvas Xpress users will receive an upgrade notification when connected to the internet. Step: Simply connect the device to Wi-Fi and download the latest software. Once completed check for OS version under Settings to verify the update was installed correctly. If you haven't received the notification yet, go to Settings > About phone > Software update to manually install Lollipop.

Recently, Google started rolling out Lollipop to its budget Android One-powered smartphones in India. Intex also released a new phone, Aqua Star L, powered by Lollipop for Rs. 6,999. Micromax Canvas Xpress A99 was launched in December last year for Rs. 6,999. It features a 4.5-inch display, 5MP rear camera, 1GB RAM, 1,950mAh battery and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. Canvas Xpress competes with other budget phones in India.
