On Wednesday (5 March), Micromax unveiled the company's new flagship phone Canvas Knight A350 in India.

Canvas Knight boasts high-end specifications and is priced just under ₹20,000; with such low price-tag, it is poised to hurt the sales of the recently launched Galaxy Grand 2, the successor of Samsung's best selling mid-range phone Galaxy Grand.

If buyers get swayed towards Micromax's competitively priced feature-rich smartphone, then Micromax, which is placed second in the Indian smartphone market has a chance to dethrone the reigning leader, Samsung.

Here is a Brief Comparison of Micromax Canvas Knight A350 and Samsung Galaxy Grand 2:

Design and Design:

Galaxy Grand 2 features a rectangular design, (less curvy than its predecessor) and its plastic rear-side is disguised under the faux-leather stitching with chrome finish around the bezel.

Samsung phone sports a 5.25-inch HD (1280x720p) LCD screen with pixel density close to 280 ppi (pixels per inch)

On the other hand, Canvas Knight A350 looks impressive; it is an evolved product of its ancestors with lot of improvements in terms of design and build quality.

Canvas Knight boasts uni-body design with metal rim around the edges and glassy finish on the rear-side giving true premium feeling.

Micromax device flaunts a full HD (1920x1080p) IPS screen with a staggering pixel density of 443 ppi.

Processor, RAM and Storage:

Samsung's phone houses the 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 series quad-core CPU made from industry leader Qualcomm. It is backed with 1.5GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt memory with options of expanding up to 64GB via microSD card.

Whereas, the Micromax handset boasts 2.0 GHz Tru Octa-core chipset manufactured by Taiwan based MediaTek. It is aptly supported by sumptuous 2GB RAM with 32GB onboard storage. [No microSD slot]

Mobile Operating System:

In this aspect, both the devices stand even as they both run on the same ubiquitous Google Android platform sans running on different OS version.

However, the nagging problem with Micromax fans is that the company is non committal in releasing OS update routinely. It had done updates only a few times for couple of flagship devices, but this might change with the Canvas Knight as it feature FOTA (Firmware-Over-The-Air) which enables phone to get wireless OS update.

Camera:

Samsung phone packs 8.0-megapixel camera on the rear-side and a 1.9-megapixel HD camera on the front.

Though Galaxy Grand 2 features pretty much same camera specifications of its predecessor, it compensates with enhanced photo-editing tools like Sound & Shot, Continuous Shot , HDR, and others like Beauty Face, Best Face, Rich Tone (HDR), Panorama, Sports and Night that can enrich the photography experience.

Micromax Canvas Knight comes loaded with 16.0-megapixel main camera with M8 Largan lens, high-performance 1.34-micron OmniBSI-2TM pixel architecture, and CameraChipTM sensors feature electronic image stabilization (EIS) technology, whereas on the front, it boasts an 8.0-megapixel camera.

(Note: higher pixel number in camera does not guarantee good photo, it depends on the type of lens and aperture size, wider the better)

Price:

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 made its debut in India in January with a price-tag of ₹22,999, now it can be purchased for ₹21,000 in some online stores.

Micromax known to be as one of the pioneers of low-cost phone vendor in the price-sensitive Indian market is selling Canvas Knight A350 under ₹20,000.
