Popular Indian smartphone maker Micromax has released a feature-rich quad-core smartphone called Canvas Ego A113 into the subcontinent.

The new Micromax phone is already available for purchase at online store Snapdeal for ₹12,999. It sports a 4.7-inch capacitive display and runs on Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS with 1GB RAM and 4GB memory with a microSD slot to expand storage up to 32GB.

Other specifications include a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8.0-megapixel main camera on the rear side and a secondary camera on the front side. Connectivity wise, it features Bluetooth with A2DP support, Wi-Fi and USB port.

Micromax Canvas Ego A113 is the fifth smartphone from the company to hit the markets in the last one month. In August, Micromax had released a budget handset, A34 (₹4399), and dual-core based Canvas Fun A76 (₹8,499). In the last week of August, it also released its costliest device to date, the 5.7-inch Canvas Doodle 2 phablet (₹18,990) and the affordable Canvas Fun A74 for ₹7,749.

The company is also pegged to release another affordable device, Canvas Fun A63, in the coming days. Taking note of its launching spree, the company seems to be in a serious race to topple reigning leader Samsung which is just 4 percent ahead in terms of market share.

After the Indian arm of the market watch dog IDC (International Data Corporation) revealed reports of the subcontinent's second quarter smartphone market share results, Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma reportedly said the company would try to surpass the South Korean company's market share by Diwali (November first week) this year. Currently, Micromax stands second at 22 percent, whereas Samsung is placed top with 26 percent market share.

It is to be noted that Samsung's share fell to 26 percent, six percent down from 32 percent in the first quarter. On the other hand, Micromax reached 22 percent, four percent up from 18.8 in the previous quarter. If Micromax continues to push more smartphones into the market along with innovative marketing theatrics as it did with Canvas 4, it may very well trounce Samsung soon.
