Since the start of the year, the Indian smartphone market has seen an influx of low-cost phablets released by the domestic players, giving stiff challenge to foreign manufacturers.

A116 Canvas HD which was released a couple of months ago, recorded huge sales on the day of its release as the first batch of Micromax smartphones was sold-out within minutes of its release online. It still continues to be the most popular and sought-after smartphone in the market.

Rival Intex on Monday pulled the wraps off its first quad-core smartphone - Aqua Wonder Quad Core. The smartphone is expected to be priced ₹9,990, making it the lowest priced quad core handset in the market.

With a price tag of less than ₹10,000, will the Intex smartphone become a threat to Micromax's record seller which is currently facing supply-demand deficit in the market due to the staggered production line? It remains to be seen.

Here is a brief comparison of main specs between Micromax A116 Canvas HD and Intex Aqua Wonder Quad Core:

The Micromax Canvas HD A116 has a 5.0-inch LCD screen with IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology having a HD 720px1280p display resolution with pixel density of 294 pixels per inch. Intex Aqua Wonder features a smaller 4.5-inch screen with IPS qHD display and 540x960p resolution.

In terms of power, Micromax Canvas HD and Intex Aqua Wonder stand even as they both pack MediaTek MT6589 based quad-core processors.

Aqua Wonder Quad Core sports an 8.0-megapixel main camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash support plus a 2.0-megapixel front camera. A116 Canvas HD too sports an impressive 8.0-megapixel rear-side camera with HD 1280x720p resolution video recording and a 2.0-megapixel front camera.

Mobile Operating System:

In terms of mobile OS, both stand even in this department as Canvas HD and Aqua Wonder Quad Core smartphones run on the same Android mobile OS v4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Memory and Battery Capacity:

Both Micromax and Intex smartphone boast 4GB internal memory with options of expanding up to 32GB. But it terms of RAM and battery capacity, Canvas HD fares better than the low priced Aqua Wonder.

According to latest reports, Canvas HD costs ₹14,499, while Aqua Wonder Quad Core is expected to be priced ₹9,990, almost ₹4500 lower than its competitor. This might very well play spoilsport for the Canvas HD since Micromax is facing supply shortage. Adding woes to the consumer, several online retailers have reduced the Canvas HD's price close to ₹16,000 to cash in on the huge demand in the market.
