Domestic computer peripheral manufacturer Intex Technologies recently launched the affordable quad-core Aqua i5 smartphone into the market, intensifying the price war among local and MNC rivals. Popular indigenous smartphone maker Micromax is particularly feeling the heat.

Micromax's flagship A116 Canvas HD handset still managed to remain as the most sought-after device in the market. But with the launch of the low-cost Intex Aqua i5 along with Intex's advertisement campaigns, it might pose a threat to the Micromax phone sales.

Here is a brief comparison between main features of Micromax A116 HD and Intex Aqua i5 [Spec-Wise]:

Display:

The Micromax Canvas HD A116 sports a 5.0-inch LCD display IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology with 720px1280p resolution and pixel density of 294 ppi (Pixels Per Inch). On the other hand, Intex Aqua i5 too features a 5.0-inch screen, but its subpar qHD 954x540p resolution display with pixel density close to 220 ppi is a bit of a let-down.

Processor:

In terms of power, Micromax A116 Canvas HD and Intex Aqua i5 share points as they both house the same MediaTek based MTK-6589 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core processor.

Camera:

In this aspect, Aqua i5 edges past the Micromax smartphone as it boasts an impressive 12.0-megapixel main camera with flash support and a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera. In comparison, Canvas HD A116 sports an 8.0-megapixel main camera with auto-and flash support and a 2.0-megapixel camera on the front.

Mobile Operating System:

In terms of mobile OS, they both stand even as both A116 Canvas HD and Intex Aqua i5 run on the same ubiquitous Android mobile OS Jelly Bean.

It is to be noted that the Intex smartphone comes with Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS out-of-the-box, whereas the Micromax smartphone ships with v4.1.2 Jelly Bean. However, buyers need not be dissapointed as they can update the OS to the latest v4.2.1 at exclusive company service centres.

Both smartphones have similar storage, RAM, battery capacity and network connectivity features with minor differences.

Price:

As per current market stats, the price of Micromax A116 Canvas HD is hovering around ₹13,700, whereas Intex Aqua i5 is available on e-retailer Infibeam for ₹11,690, almost ₹2000 lower than its rival. (Prices vary based on markets)
