Metal-clad YU Yunicorn with fingerprint sensor launched in India; price, specifications

Micromax subsidiary YU unveiled the company's new flagship smartphone, dubbed as the Yunicorn, in India on May 31.

YU Yunicorn comes with a sleek all-metal body measuring just 8.15 mm thick. On the front, it boasts 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D glass and physical home button, which also doubles up as fingerprint-based screen unlocking sensor.

Under the hood, the company has incorporated a powerful 1.81GHz MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755M) octa-core processor. It is backed by sumptuous 4GB RAM, 32GB inbuilt memory and a massive 4,000mAh battery, which can keep the phone awake for close to 500 hours under standby mode.

YU Yunicorn's camera hardware is also of top-notch quality. It boasts a 13MP primary camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) and an equally impressive 5MP camera with wide-angle shot taking ability.

Price and registration details:

Like all previous YU phones, the company has priced the Yunicorn aggressively to take on the rivals. It costs Rs.14,999. As promotional offer, the company will sell the device at discounted price of Rs.12,999 for the first month.

The company announced that the registration window for the new YU Yunicorn will open on Flipkart at 2:00 p.m. and the first flash sale will kick off on June 7.

Competition:

Armed with top-end specs and pocket-friendly price tag, YU Yunicorn is poised to give a stiff challenge to popular brands such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo K4 Note, LG K10, recently launched Moto G4 Plus and Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016).
