This year's theme was Costume Art and Fashion is Art, and the dress code was not merely about fabric or fashion, but it was a painting in motion, and many celebrities did follow the theme, and the red carpet turned into a living gallery.

From surreal sculptures to cinematic gowns and metallic costumes, the Met Gala 2026 red carpet was a visual spectacle. From Beyoncé's crystal-encrusted skeleton dress to Anne Hathaway's hand-painted gown inspired by John Keats' Ode to a Grecian Urn, and Sabrina Carpenter's LBD referencing the 1954 film Sabrina. Diamonds, statuesque silhouettes, and bold artistry only amped up the glam quotient.

Sorry! Heidi Klum, Hrithik Roshan did way before you did!

Well, for every desi fan, Heidi Klum's stone and statue-styled outfit reminded them of Hrithik Roshan.

She was draped in all white cloth, head-to-toe, like a marble statue, with facial prosthetics that mimicked a veil rendered in stone. Designed by Mike Marino, her entire look, from gown to face  featured a stone-like texture, making her appear almost museum-ready. 

When Heidi Klum walked up to Ashley Graham and Cara Delevingne for a quick chat, she shared how she recreated the look. According to Heidi, the entire look was brought to life using foam and latex. While her Met Gala outfit looked stiff, she was quick to show how soft it was and how comfortable she was in the look.

As soon as the visuals from the red carpet went viral, they lit up with reactions to her statue-inspired look. Desis even said Hrithik Roshan did it in Dhoom 2, much before Heidi Klum did it at the Met Gala. Some even compared her to the Statue of Liberty.

Hailey wore a molten breastplate that was moulded into her body. She opted for an outfit from Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent for the event. She wore it with a matching cape that flowed behind her and a flowing royal blue skirt.

Madonna wore a dark Saint Laurent creation. A flowing veil attached to a structured hat trailed behind her, carried by an entourage, because if it's Madonna, it's never just an entrance; it's a moment.

Simone Ashley, who just starred in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," wore a barely-there dress by Stella McCartney on the red carpet at the Met Gala. 

Katy Perry

Katy Perry went more tech than art. She went incognito at the start with a chrome mask covering her face and a white gown, keeping it stylish at the same time. She stunned fans by removing the mask to reveal her face in one of the most dramatic moments on the carpet. Perry's outfit included a long strapless gown with a flowing cape. The detail was a reference to AI-generated images of Perry that had circulated online during past Met Galas.

Sabrina Carpenter embraced Old Hollywood glamour with a unique, artistic twist. She wore a custom Dior halter-style gown designed by Jonathan Anderson that was partially crafted from actual film strips from the 1954 classic movie 'Sabrina.' The front of the dress featured delicate beads and a sheer black skirt shimmering with tiny gemstones.

BLACKPINK's Lisa wore a custom Robert Wun gown, adorned with nearly 67,000 crystals, featuring sculptural arms holding a floating veil. 

Eileen Gu's bubble dress

She stole it and she looked beautiful. Made of 15,000 bubbles, created over 2,500 hours with a hidden microprocessor, the dress created a magical moment at the Met Gala 2026.

Cardi B

Cardi B looked bizarre in an avant-garde outfit designed by Marc Jacobs. Inspired by the artistic work of Hans Bellmer, her look featured a sheer black lace gown layered over a colour-blocked bodysuit with exaggerated, "lumpy" padding on the shoulders and hips to resemble a modular doll. The dramatic ensemble included oversized sculptural sleeves and extremely high platform boots.

However, netizens had mixed reactions to many of the bizarre looks. Some said that the MET Gala 2026 looked more like Halloween and scary with that dipping, scary make-up; some resorted to AI rather than keeping it true to art.
