The Mercedes-Benz new A-Class hatchback has been launched with a price tag of Rs 24.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the petrol variant (A 180 Sport) and Rs 25.95 lakh for the diesel model (A 200d Sport) (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz drove in its new updated A-class hatchback in India on 8 December (Tuesday).

The re-styled A-Class packs changes both inside and outside. Under the hood, the A-class is expected to continue with the same petrol and diesel engines. The A 180 Sport petrol variant, which will be renamed A 180 according to the new nomenclature of the company, will be powered by the inline four-cylinder 1,595cc engine.

The engine develops 120bhp at 5,000rpm and 200Nm of torque starting at 1,250rpm. The A 200 CDI Sport diesel mill, which will be renamed A 200d, will be powered by an inline four-cylinder 2,143cc engine that develops 134bhp at 3,600rpm and 300Nm of torque at 1,600rpm. Both engines will be mated to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Expected to be priced around Rs 28 lakh, Mercedes A-class hatchback will house free-standing and frameless display of the infotainment system with eight-inch screen and seamless smartphone integration such as Apple CarPlay for iPhone users and MirrorLink. The cabin also gets updated "tubular design" instrument cluster with new graphics and revised switches.

As for the changes in the exterior, A-Class comes with optional LED headlamps, a reworked front bumper which is more arrow-shaped, newly designed internals for the LED tail lamps and new exhaust tips at the rear bumper. There is also new 5-spoke alloy wheels on the menu.
