German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz pulled the wraps off its much-awaited 2015 C-Class in India on Tuesday.

Based on the MRA (Mercedes Rear wheel drive Architecture) platform, the new C-Class gets power from 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine, which can generate a maximum power of 181bhp @5500rpm and a peak torque of 300Nm 1200-1400rpm.

The engine comes coupled to a 7-speed double-clutch transmission with a top speed of 235km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

In terms of dimensions, the new C-Class measures 4,686mm in length, 1,810mm in width and 1,442mm in height, which is 95mm longer and 40mm wider than its previous model.

The car comes seated on a wheelbase of 2,840mm and promises a fuel efficiency of 14.74 kmpl. The diesel model of the C-Class saloon will be coming to India in early 2015.

"The new C-Class sets a new benchmark with its technological and design advancement. The technological prowess of the new C-Class is a prime example of how the latest generation telematics and IT systems are well integrated in Mercedes-Benz cars," said Eberhard Kern, managing director and chief executive of Mercedes-Benz India.

On the safety front, the C-Class comes fitted with six airbags, PRE-SAFE system, Attention assist, Electric parking brake, Hill start assist and ABS. Other features of the car include Keyless start function, Illuminated door sill panel, LED intelligent lighting system (ILS) and a panoramic sunroof. The new C-Class has been priced at ₹40.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

In October, Mercedes launched GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC India with a price tag of ₹69.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).The car is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, direct-injection petrol engine, which can churn out a massive power of 355bhp and a peak torque of 450Nm. The engine comes coupled to the AMG SpeedShift DCT 7-speed sports transmission and can accelerate 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph.
