German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched special editions of its A-Class and B-Class models in India, as part of the anniversary celebrations of the cars in the country.

Dubbed Edition 1, the limited editions of both A-Class and B-Class are launched in diesel variant and are powered by 2.2-litre 4 cylinder diesel motor, which can comfortably churn out a power of 107 bhp @ 3200-4400 rpm and a peak torque of 250 Nm @ 1400-2800 rpm. The cars can attain a top speed of 190km/h and the engine continues to be mated to a seven-speed automatic dual clutch.

Making it special, the Edition 1's 100 units will only be available in India. While the A-Class Edition 1 comes with a price tag of ₹26.17 lakh, the B-Class is priced at ₹28.75 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Talking of the features, the Edition 1 A-Class gets panoramic sunroof, electrically powered front seats, a reversing camera, new tremolite grey 17- inch alloys central armrest with cup holders. In addition to the features offered in A-Class, the Edition 1 B-Class also gets rear passenger entertainment system.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class was originally launched Back in September 2012, followed by A-class, in May last year.

"The launch of A and B-class in India was a very significant and strategic decision. Today the success of these two products not only signifies the aptness of our decision, but also underlines the maturity of the emerging young customers," Mercedes Benz India vice president for sales and network development Boris Fitz said in a press release.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz sells A Class, B Class, sedans C Class, E Class, S Class in India besides the locally made S Class, E-Class, C-Class, GL-Class and M-Class models. The AMG lineups in India include C 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, G 63 AMG, GL 63 AMG, SLS AMG and ML 63 AMG.

Recently, the company launched S Class S350 CDI, the diesel version of S-Class in India with a price point of ₹1.07 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). The new S-Class model packs 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged diesel motor under the hood, which can generate a power of 258 bhp at 3,600 rpm and a peak torque of 490 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm.

It comes with 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds. The diesel version of S-Class promises a top speed of 250 kmph. The car offers features like Burmester sound system with 24 speakers, 8 airbags and misses features like Nappa leather and night vision system which were seen in S 500 model.
