At least two people were killed and six injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in East Garo Hills in Meghalaya on Saturday afternoon, said reports.

The explosion reportedly occurred at around 1:30 pm near a wine shop at the William Nagar market of the East Garo Hills district.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby civil hospital.

Though no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, it is suspected that the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is behind the explosion.

The police have launched a search operation to find the culprits.
