India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki recorded a 13.8 percent increase in car sales at 1,14,825 units in May, as against 1,00,925 units in the corresponding month last year.

The company sold 35,062 units in the mini-passenger segment, which includes M800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R during the month, compared to 29,068 units sold in May 2014.

Sales of the super-compact Dzire Tour jumped to 3190 units, up from 892 units in May 2014, a growth of 257.6 percent.

However, the compact car segment comprising Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire declined marginally by 5.7 per cent to 41,926 units, as against 44,455 units in May 2014.

Sales of Maruti Ciaz stood at 5012 units, compared to 121 units of SX4 sedan in May 2014. The sale of utility vehicles Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga was 5,567 units in May, up from 5253 units in the corresponding month last year.

The company sold 11,602 units of Maruti Omni and Eeco in May 2015, compared to 10,771 units in May 2014. 

Exports rose 20.3 per cent growth to 12,466 units, up from 10365 units in May 2014.

The Maruti Suzuki stock was trading at Rs 3,889 at 1 pm on the BSE on Monday, up 2.74 percent from its Friday close.
