After countless leaks and rumours surrounding Maruti Suzuki's most-awaited compact SUV XA Alpha, the company has now confirmed its intention to launch the model in India this fiscal.
While speaking to ETAuto.com, Maruti Suzuki executive director for marketing and sales, RS Kalsi, revealed that the 5-seater Sports Utility Vehicle will be launched by March 2016.
XA Alpha, a SUV concept was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014. Although the official name of the model still remains a secret, a compact SUV of Maruti is currently in its testing phase in the country and goes by the codename -- YBA.
Caught on camera numerous times, Maruti YBA is likely to take design cues from Suzuki iV-4 concept SUV, which was seen at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show. Likely to be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options, Maruti YBA SUV is speculated to pack 1.2-litre K-Series or 1.3-litre diesel engine under the hood.
To be pitched against Ford's popular SUV EcoSport, Maruti YBA is likely to get a price tag pegged at around ₹5.5 lakh. The model is expected to get features like keyless entry, push start/stop button and touchscreen infotainment system.
A recent report had indicated that Maruti has registered its upcoming YBA SUV as Vitara Brezza, however nothing has been confirmed yet.
