It looks like there is finally more clarity on the launch of the much-awaited mini-crossover -- the Ignis -- from the house of the country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki. The Ignis has been linked with several launch dates in India and the latest buzz online is that the crossover will make its entry into the market during Diwali.

The Ignis, which made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2016 in February, will be sold through premium dealerships of Maruti, the Nexa. While previous reports had said that the launch has been pushed back to 2017 as the company has a huge pile of order for its models like the Vitara Brezza compact SUV and the Baleno premium hatchback, emerging reports suggest that the Ignis is on the right track for its launch and could hit the showrooms in October.

The auto enthusiasts in the country have already heard a lot about the Ignis in terms of its style, design, features and most importantly the powertrain. However, there is also an interesting bit in addition to the already available details. The crossover is likely to be powered by 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine.

The Ignis was previously rumoured to come with a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. The transmission is likely to be taken care of by five-speed manual gearbox. There have also been reports of the Ignis getting AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) in both petrol and diesel engine variants. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Ignis is expected to be priced between Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh. In terms of dimension, the Ignis will measure 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width, and 1,595mm in height. The vehicle comes with a wheelbase of 2,435mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. The Ignis is likely to get safety features such as ABS with EBD, airbags and hill descent control.
