Maruti Suzuki's upcoming Celerio diesel has been rated as the country's 'most fuel efficient car' at a mileage of 27.62kpl.

A report in Auto Car India says Celerio diesel has been given the rating by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).

The report also adds that the engine of the new Celerio diesel will have the capacity to churn out 47bhp at 3500rpm and 12.7kgm of torque at 2000rpm.The Celerio diesel is likely to come with a 5-speed manual transmission at the time of launch and could get automated manual transmission (AMT) later.

The Celerio diesel, which will rival Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai i10 in India, will flaunt the same style and design of the current model in the market, except for the tweak in the engine. The launch of Celerio diesel is expected to happen in the first week of June and the model is likely to reach dealers in the coming days.

Expected to be priced at a premium of ₹60,000- ₹80,000 to the current Celerio model,  Celerio diesel is likely to be offered in LDi, VDi and ZDi variants. The bookings for the Celerio diesel are likely to begin shortly in India.
