Manchester United have no injuries, said an ecstatic Louis Van Gaal, but the club will be without three key players for the Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday at Old Trafford.

Last season, especially early on, Manchester United were ravaged by injuries, with Van Gaal unable to put the same defence out regularly, which in turn cost them a few points.

However, going into the new season, and having bought new players in early, Manchester United look a little more settled, with the injury bug, for the moment at least, staying away.

Giving his injury update ahead of the game, Van Gaal said Marcos Rojo and Bastian Schweinsteiger will definitely miss the match, owing to their lack of match fitness.

"We have no injuries," Van Gaal told MUTV. "It's unbelievable! But it's not possible for Rojo to be match fit as he was the last player to come back.

"Schweinsteiger came also at the last moment out of his holidays so I don't think he is fit enough. We have to build the fitness he needs."

Van Gaal also revealed David De Gea will not be selected against Spurs, as his future remains up in the air, with that move to Real Madrid still very much on the horizon.

"It is not easy for David De Gea to manage his situation now," Van Gaal added. "You know that we have problems with De Gea.

"He shall not play, so I don't have any concerns [with it].

"A human being is more than just a player and he cannot manage."

Since De Gea will not play, it might mean a Premier League debut for Sergio Romero, who was signed on a free transfer, but has not played since the Copa America, with Sam Johnstone also in contention, having feature heavily on the preseason tour of the US.

Mauricio Pochettino has a few injury concerns with his Tottenham squad, with Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado unlikely to feature, while Hugo Lloris and Ryan Mason are also doubtful starters for the match that will start the new Premier League season.

"We have a good feeling for Hugo and Ryan, maybe not to compete for 90 minutes, but to be in the squad," Pochettino told the club's official website.

"Soldado didn't play in the Audi Cup because of a problem in his lower back, Andros also has a problem in his shoulder. We need to assess them in the last training session today."
