Movies starring Mammootty and Mohanlal are always among the most-awaited films as the actors enjoys a huge fan following all over the world. The same is the case with the four big-budget movies of the legendary artistes lined up for a release this year.
Mammootty's two movies have already rocked the box office in the state in 2016 and the actor has two more films that are expected to hit the screens this year. However, even after the first half of 2016 is over, a Mohanlal movie is yet to release on the big screen and the superstar has four films — two Malayalam and two multi-lingual — scheduled for the second half of the year.
Megastar Mammootty plays the role of a billionaire named Prakash Roy in the Uday Ananthan-directed film, which is completely shot in London. The movie has Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi opposite Mammootty, with whom his character falls in love with. After postponing the release date many times, the makers have now confirmed that the romantic entertainer will hit the screens on July 29 as the second release of the actor in the same month after Nithin Renji Panicker's cop movie "Kasaba."
Director Johny Antony's upcoming family entertainer "Thoppil Joppan" has been hitting the headlines ever since it went on the floors. Mammootty's photos from the shooting location, in which he is seen as a Kabbadi player in the titular character, have already gone viral on social media. The movie also has Mamta Mohandas, Andrea Jeremiah, Jude Anthony Joseph, Baby Akshara Kishore, Salim Kumar and Harishree Ashokan in key roles. It is expected to hit the screens as an Onam release.
In Priyadarshan and Mohanlal's upcoming crime thriller "Oppam," Mohanlal plays the role of a blind person, who works as a lift operator. It will be the first film in which the superstar plays as a full fledged blind man in his acting career spanning 38 years. It also marks the association of the successful actor-director duo who has delivered many superhits in Malayalam. The movie trailer will be attached with Rajinikanth's "Kabali" in Kerala as Mohanlal has bagged the theatrical rights of the gangster thriller in the state. "Oppam," which also has Anusree, Vimala Raman and Samuthirakani in significant roles is expected to be released in September. c
Fans of superstar Mohanlal have been eagerly awaiting for the big-budget action thriller "Pulimurugan" since months. The movie's teaser garnered tremendous response from the audience and has raised the expectation of the audience from it. The movie, which also stars Kamalini Mukherjee, Namitha, Jagapati Babu, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Bala, was initially decided to be released in December 2015. However, it has been postponed many times and the uncertainty regarding its release date still continues as the makers are yet to announce the official release date of the thriller. Some unconfirmed reports also state that the movie is likely to hit the screens in 2017.
Manamantha and Janatha Garage
Apart from these, Mohanlal also has Telugu movies Chandra Sekhar Yeleti's "Manamantha" ("Vismayam" in Malayalam) and Koratala Siva's "Janatha Garage" in his kitty. While "Manamantha" is expected to hit the screens in July, Junior NTR-starrer is scheduled to release on August 12.
