Rumour mills have been spinning for months now with stories about Mahindra's upcoming micro-SUV codenamed S101. A lot has been written about the new S101 which is slated to make its India debut in the third week of January.

Mahindra's upcoming mini-SUV which has been undergoing its test runs in the country for the past couple of months is popularly known by its codename S101. Several names such as CUV100 and XUV100 have been linked to the home-gown auto makers' next big ticket S101.

Now it looks like the name of Mahindra's upcoming compact SUV S101 has almost been confirmed as the emerging reports on the web suggest that the model could be called KUV100.

A report of Auto Car India states that the S101 is likely to be christened as KUV100 as the company looks to keep its S101 separately from its popular XUV500. In KUV100, 'K' is believed to stand for 'Kompact'.

The S101 has been caught testing in the country numerous times, making the auto enthusiasts in the domestic market green with envy. Built on an all-new monocoque platform, Mahindra S101 is expected to compete with the likes of Maruti's tall-boy WagonR is and Chevrolet Beat.

The company is expected to reveal the details including the name of its compact SUV S101 in India on 18 January. RushLane reports that Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan is set to endorse the new Mahindra S101 and the 28-year-old will be part of the new SUV's print and TV commercials.

From what have known so far, under the hood, the S101 is expected to include 1.2-litre diesel and petrol mills. While the petrol mill is likely to be an all-new engine developed by the company, the diesel mill could be the watered-down version of the 1.5-litre mHawk engine.

Inside the cabin, the S101 is expected to get a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, bench-like seats in the front and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Expected to be priced around Rs 4 lakh, Mahindra S101 is likely to be the most-affordable SUV in the company's line-up.
