Mahindra, Ssangyong to Launch Jointly Developed Engine in 2015

The rumours swirling around Mahindra's upcoming compact SUV S101 have intensified with the launch of the vehicle nearing in India. The latest bit of information that is doing the rounds on the Internet is that the SUV kingpin is likely to price its new vehicle around ₹3.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

A report of automobile website Rushlane, citing sources close to the development reveals that the new compact SUV, which is scheduled to make its entry next year will get a competitive price tag in the market.

The report also adds that the company is looking ways to price its new offering in the lowest range, which is likely to be around ₹3.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra has been testing its S101 SUV on Indian roads for quite a while now and the vehicle was caught on camera numerous times. When launched,  S101, a sub-four metre vehicle will rival Ford EcoSport and upcoming Volkswagen Taigun in India and the SUV is expected to accommodate features like anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, four airbags and electronic stability programme.

As for the engine, expect the SUV to feature Mahindra's newly developed engines. So far, it is said that S101 would get power from the new 1.2 litre petrol engine, which is expected to churn out 80bhp. Mahindra's new engine line-up includes 1.2 litre diesel and petrol motors, 1.6 litre diesel and petrol units, 1.5-litre diesel and there is also 1.5 litre petrol and a 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Mahindra will also be launching the new generation Bolero and a Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) in India next year. The upcoming Bolero, which is codenamed U301 is expected to come with features like a larger screen infotainment system, newly styled dashboard with a central console, a three-spoke steering wheel and rectangular AC vents. Under the hood, this vehicle is also likely to get new engines of Mahindra.
