Poplar UV maker Mahindra and Mahindra is all set to launch its new SUV NuvoSport in India April 4. The NuvoSport is the facelifted avatar of the Quanto, which was Mahindra's first compact SUV in the domestic market.

With the NuvoSport, Mahindra hopes to strengthen its position in the SUV segment.

-- The NuvoSport has been designed and developed in-house by the Mahindra design team, while the research and development of the vehicle has been carried out at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai.

-- Mahindra NuvoSport is based on the same new-generation platform as the Scorpio.

-- The UV-maker has said the NuvoSport derives its name from its sporty styling and its innate ability to enable an active lifestyle.

-­- Under the hood, the Nuvosport is expected to include a 1.2-litre mHawk and a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine. The compact SUV is speculated to come with five-speed manual transmission for both engines. Rumours are also rife the petrol models may get automated manual transmission (AMT).

-- The cabin of the Mahindra's new NuvoSport is likely to incorporate changes such as a beige-themed dashboard and steering wheel.

--  Mahindra has two other models — the TUV300 and the KUV100 — in the compact SUV segment at present.

--Mahindra NuvoSport is expected to be priced around Rs 6.5 lakh.

-- Once launched, the NuvoSport will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
