A new prototype of Mahindra's upcoming new generation Bolero codenamed U301 has been spied undergoing testing again in the country, indicating the launch is not far off.

The latest picture came from Indian Autos Blog reader T. Jesudas who spotted the test mule in Chennai. The spy shots give a clear picture of the overall proportion of the new U301, though most of the details are covered up.

Mahindra's next-generation Bolero has been in the news for quite some time now. The model, which is expected to reach Indian showrooms later this year is likely to draw power from the company's new engine line-up. There are reports that the new Bolero will include 1.5 litre diesel engine. The model is also speculated to get Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox.

Mahindra is developing seven new engines to power its future vehicles, which includes 1.2 litre diesel and petrol motors, 1.6 litre diesel and petrol units, and a 1.5-litre diesel and there is also 1.5 litre petrol and a 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Previous spy shots of interior of U301 has shown three spoke steering wheels with a Mahindra logo, two circular chrome-ringed dials on the instrument cluster and dashboard with faux aluminium and chrome finish.

Visually, Bolero is likely to get a similar boxy shape of the current model but with changes in the rear and front profiles.

Likely to be priced at around ₹6 lakh, the new Bolero's features' list is likely to include steering-mounted controls and automatic climate control.
