On the sacred occasion of Maha Shivratri on February 15, the festival commemorates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is observed nationwide through prayers, fasting, chanting of sacred mantras, and visits to Shiva temples, as devotees seek blessings and spiritual upliftment.

Devotees thronged Shiva temples and offered prayers to Lord Shiva; many even chanted shlokas and stayed awake tonight. Some performed the Rudrabhishek puja to seek blessings and divine protection. The powerful chant of "Om Namah Shivaya" echoed as devotees gathered to offer special prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The festival marks a time for reflection, prayer, and connecting with the divine.

Several prominent celebrities took to social media to extend their wishes and offer prayers, marking the spiritually significant day with heartfelt messages. Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, Bhumi Pednekar, Suneil Shetty and others were among them.

Kareena posted a serene image of a shivling adorned with flowers on her Instagram Stories and wrote, "Wish you all Mahadev's love and light... Happy Mahashivratri." Her simple yet meaningful message resonated with fans celebrating the festival.

Akshay Kumar also conveyed his wishes on X, sharing a devotional note that read, "May the grace of Lord Shiva always remain upon us all... Om Namah Shivaya. Heartfelt wishes on Mahashivratri. Jai Mahakaal."

Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, "If the ignorance in a person is overcome with spiritual consciousness, every person becomes Lord Shiva. Har Har Mahadev. Wishing that on this Mahashivratri, everyone turns inward and experiences the essence of Shiva... Wishing everyone a very happy Mahashivratri. Happy #Mahashivratri Om Namah Shivaya."

On the occassion of Maha Shivratri today, Raveena Tandon reflected on her belief in Shiva, saying, "Shiva is the all-loving, all-forgiving, universal entity for me. And the beauty about being in Shiva's bhakti is the fact that he doesn't enforce any laws or rules on you. He is omnipresent."

Raveena Tandon added, "He is known as Pashupatinath and that's why I value him even more. He was always someone who loved animals, his forever-loving Nandiji always with him, his form of Kaalbhairav where he always had dogs around him. And if you see the earliest seal of the Indus Valley, it was the seal of Pashupatinath which showed him sitting in a yogic pose with all animals around him. And that's the most enduring part of him."

The actor shared that even her kids' names, Rasha Thadani and Ranbir Thadani, have originated from Shiva. "Rasha's actual name is Vishakha in her kundli and Ranbir's name has Vardhan in it, and that's also Lord Shiva for me. Mahadev has always made me feel his presence in my life in a lot of ways. And these are signs that tell you that he's there for you in every possibility — in happiness and laughter, in struggle, in every kind of tough situation," she said.

Maha Shivratri celebrations each year include Rudra Abhishek at home for Raveena. "Otherwise I go off to Kashi for Mahashivratri. The last two Maha Shivratris, Rasha and I both have been in Kashi, and this time I'm going to be at the Isha Foundation at Sadhguruji's ashram. It's just such a wonderful celebration of music, dance, singing and just life there," she shared.

Raveena has completed her pilgrimage of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and it has had a deep family connection for her. "I started my 12 Jyotirlingas at Kashi Vishwanath in 2023 on February 17, which was also my father's (late filmmaker Ravi Tandon) birthday. I had just lost him in 2022 and I took a little bit of his ashes, which I had saved, to put in the Ganga. Within a year, till the next Maha Shivratri in 2024, Rasha and I had finished all our 12 Jyotirlingas and ended it with the last Maha Shivratri visit to Kashi," she shared, adding, "That was something I owed to my dad, and for him, I did it too. That was very special for us and our entire family."

Bhumi Pednekkar shares a heartfelt moment seeking blessings on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. She wrote in the caption, "Surrender and see the magic happen, Har Har Mahadev."

Ajay Devgn shared a portrait where he himself is seen worshiping Lord Shiva as he is surrounded by various devotees. Along with the picture, he wrote, "Har Har Mahadev."
