Radamel Falcao

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on Radamel Falcao following reports of the Reds currently holding talks with the striker's agent Jorge Mendes over a potential move to Anfield this summer.

Falcao was expected to be a big hit in the Premier League this season the minute he completed a sensational £6 million loan move from AS Monaco to Manchester United on the transfer deadline last summer.

But the 29-year-old has proved to be just the opposite this season, managing only 4 goals in 22 Premier League appearances so far. As a result, the Reds are unlikely to take up the option to sign the Colombian permanently for £43.5 million.

Despite his poor form this season, a number of clubs including Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan are still believed to be interested in Falcao, who was a terror for defenders during his stint at Porto and Atletico Madrid.

However, the former Porto striker is reportedly interested in staying in England and Liverpool are understood to be willing to give him another opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League next season.

According to the Daily Express, the Reds are currently in discussions with Mendes over his client's potential move to Anfield this summer.

Earlier, reports had suggested that the Merseyside club, like United, were looking to sign the striker on a season- long loan just to be on the safe side if he again fails to get back to his goal scoring ways nest season.

However, the Metro now claims that the Reds are looking to sign Falcao permanently for a transfer fee of £25.1million.

Liverpool, who have been struggling due to the poor form of their current strikers Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini, are reportedly desperate to get a new attacker who can partner Daniel Sturridge.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers recently admitted that his side would be finding it hard to attract new talent to his club this summer if they fail to qualify for the next season's Champions League.

And as Liverpool's chances of making a top four finish in the Premier League this season are pretty slim, Rodgers is reportedly willing to take Falcao despite his poor form at Manchester United this season.

However, Falcao will probably have to take a pay cut as the Merseysiders will certainly not be willing to pay his reported £250,000-a-week wage packet at Old Trafford.
