Liverpool have agreed personal terms with a proven English Premier League striker in Danny Ings from Burnley, with the Englishman set to join Liverpool on 1 July, subject to medical.
This makes Danny Ings the second signing of the summer after the Reds completed a similar free transfer move for James Milner from Manchester City last week.
With the signing, Liverpool have bolstered their squad up front, with the lack of form of the strikers one of the major reasons for their below-par performance last season. Hence, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini's future has come in for serious doubt as they did not receive much gametime last season, and may well be on their way out of Anfield, while the same could also be said of Mario Balotelli.
"Liverpool FC are delighted to announce that they have agreed personal terms with Danny Ings and, subject to a medical, the striker will join the club on July 1 after his contract with Burnley has expired," read a statement on the club's official website.
Liverpool were not the only team interested in signing Ings, as Manchester United were also keeping a close eye on the situation with the player's contract coming to an end this summer.
Burnley have also come up with a statement confirming Ings' move.
"Burnley Football Club can confirm that Danny Ings has today agreed personal terms with Liverpool Football Club and, subject to a medical, will complete a move to Merseyside on July 1," the statement said.
Though the player will be joining Liverpool on a free transfer, the clubs are yet to reach an agreement on a compensation fee.
But, Burnley have stated that the club have rejected the offer made by Liverpool and will have more dialogue soon.
"Burnley Football Club has rejected an offer made by Liverpool, but will continue to have dialogue with the club in order to reach a resolution over the fee," the statement added.
If Liverpool and Burnley cannot come to terms over a fee, then a tribunal will set the compensation price to be paid for the player.
